The final round of the British Ladies Championship took place in Richmond, North Yorkshire. Becky had already won the championship at the previous round so decided to ride her brand new factory Sherco which she had only picked up two days before and had limited time to get used to it. However she was very happy with it and still confident she could win. It was a dry day over head but the streams, rocks, banks and roots were still very slippery from lots of rain leading up to the event. Becky started in the best way possible cleaning the first four sections with her nearest rival, Emma Bristow on two. A two on the fifth, tight twisty turn and also the tricky ninth section was not a disaster as Emma also dabbed here. Becky was brilliant on the tenth section recording the only two cleans of the day. She rounded out the first lap with a one and three on the sections eleven and twelve to come in on eight, holding a two mark advantage over Emma and third placed rider Donna Fox a further seven marks back. The second lap started in the same way for Becky cleaning the first four sections but two slack three mark rides on section’s six and ten bumped her score up to thirteen for that lap. Emma had nudged in front of Becky with a seven mark loss. So it was game on for the final tour with Becky determined to make amends for her poor second lap. Which she did posting the best lap of the trial, just five marks lost. It was a tense wait as they waited for the scores to come up, Emma had finished on twenty three with Becky just three behind on twenty six and Donna Fox in third on forty. Becky was obviously disappointed not to finish the series with a win but very happy to win her seventh British Championship. |
