Becky Cook took a convincing win this weekend at the penultimate round of the British Ladies Championship and in doing so took home her seventh title! The Yeadon Guiseley club had set out twelve tough sections at Dob Park made even tougher for the riders by the hot weather.

Becky started the day calm and confidently on her MRS BVM Sherco just taking the odd dab here and there which although frustrating at the time it was not a disaster by any means. She showed her intentions as early as section three as she was the first to clean it and matched this every lap, the next best here was Emma Bristow who parted with two marks each lap. Section six was another tester, up a steep narrow rocky gully where Becky only lost a single mark along with up and coming youngster, Hannah Styles. Becky’s biggest loss of the first lap was on section eight, the hard part involved an awkward run up to a rock step with a gap to another rock. Becky got onto the first rock clean but then momentarily lost her balance as she bridged the gap and had to get it out for a three. Her first lap of seven put her out in front with a good advantage going into the second lap, as Emma had lost thirteen.

Knowing she was slightly in front Becky concentrated on not making any major mistakes but knew she couldn’t relax as Emma would be pushing her hard right to the end. She completed her second lap for nine marks, with Emma loosing eight.

The time was getting tight now so Becky didn’t have time to look at any sections and had to ride some without a minder due to the long lap. However this didn’t unsettle her and she rode brilliantly recording the only clean on section six. She completed the final lap for just six marks, the best lap of the day with Emma loosing ten.

The final scores saw Becky take her fourth win of the series and the title on twenty two marks plus four on time, Emma was second on thirty one and Hannah third on eighty six.
