MRS BVM Sherco rider, Becky Cook secured runner-up position in the 2009 European Ladies Championship after finishing second in the final round at Tanvald, Czech Republic.

Persistent rain throughout the day made the sections quite slippery but actually made for a better trial. Becky had a steady first lap, taking a dab on the second section, she then cleaned the next six up to section nine where she had another dab but was given a two for touching a tree with her shoulder. Becky and World Champion, Laia Sanz were the only riders to get through this section for less than a five all day. A three went on the next muddy section and on the final long and technical rocky section. Her first lap of nine put her in second place with Laia going ‘clean’ and Iris Kramer on twenty two.

On the second lap the sections had become even more slippery as mud dragged onto the rocks. Things didn’t start great for Becky as her chain got hooked off on the second section, this being her only failure of the trial. Several three’s and a couple of dabs gave her a score of nineteen for the second lap. Laia had pushed on from the start finishing well ahead of the rest avoiding the worst of the conditions and completed the trial on five marks, Becky finished in second quite a way back on twenty eight but well ahead of Iris Kramer in third on forty two.

The British Ladies Championship resumes next weekend, August 9th, which Becky currently leads by nineteen points, so could wrap up her sixth consecutive title with one round to go.
